Who created Spotify?

Swedish entrepreneurs Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon started developing Spotify in 2006. The app is designed to tackle music piracy and provide a convenient (and legal) way to access music. In October 2008, Spotify was launched in selected European countries. Three years later, it reached its first million subscribers.

Today, the humble startup is the world’s largest music streaming platform. As of February 2022, Spotify had 180 million paying users and 406 million monthly active users. It is also available in 184 countries.
